The Osun State Police Command has stated that it will continue to work hard to ensure that the state remain an unsafe Haven for rapists, cultists and other criminality.

The Commissioner of Police, Undie Adie gave this warning in during his maiden press conference on Friday in Osogbo.

The Police Commissioner, who was transferred to the state earlier this month, said most of the criminals cases recorded in the state were cult related and rape cases, adding that the command is working round the clock to ensure it gets rid of the perpetrators.

He said the command has arrested suspected cultists, fraudsters and armed robbers in Ede, Ilesha, Ipetumodu and Ikire while suspected rapists were napped in Ile-Ife, Osogbo, Ilesha, Ila-Orangun and Ibokun.

“On 18th June, 2020, upon information received that, some hoodlums suspected to be ritualists gathered themselves bearing different dangerous weapons with intent to terrorize Ede town, police operatives swung into action. The hoodlums engaged the policemen in a gun duel, one Mukaila Ismaila a.k.a Sabe was injured and being evacuated to hospital. Six other were arrested namely: Fagbemi Ajao ‘m’ (65), Ifaseun Gbadebo ‘m’ (35), Olubayo Ayantunde ‘m’ (45), Taiwo Ayandare ‘m’ (35), Taiwo Ayandare ‘m’ (30) and Ayankunle Mutiu ‘m’ (40). Exhibits recovered from them includes: Masquerade costume, four beating drums, one cut-to-size barrel gun, one Dane gun, two cutlasses, local Axes and criminal charms. The suspects have been charged to court.

“On 19th June, 2020 at about 1230hrs, some residents of Ipetumodu town reported at Ipetumodu Police Division that, six hoodlums broke into their residences with guns & cutlasses and carted away their valuable properties including cash. The police swung into action and with the cooperation of public spirited individuals, one Kazeem Waris ‘m’ (25), Saheed Babatunde ‘m’ (25) and Ojo Ifeoluwa ‘m’ (25) were arrested with some of the items robbed from the victims such as: Itel camera, Techno coil pad, power bank and cash sum of N195,635. Recovered from the suspects are some of the weapons used in their operation. The suspects are now being prosecuted.

“On 23rd June, 2020, upon information received that some hoodlums suspected to be members of Avee and Eiye confraternity engaged themselves in superiority battle where one Seun Mustapha ‘m’ was murdered at Ilesa by the suspected cultists, police detectives and our Joint Tactical Teams moved to the scene along Iwara road, Ilesa.

“On sighting the police, they engaged the police in a gun fight but the superior power of the police overwhelmed them and one of the cultists was unfortunately fatally hit, one Adetipe Ademola ‘m’ (38) was arrested alongside with one Emmanuel Adeleye ‘m’ who sustained bullet wound and taken to hospital where he later died while receiving treatment at Wesley Guild Hospital. Exhibits recovered from them include: two (2) motorcycles, one (1) Pump action gun with eight (8) cartridges, one (1) locally made gun, one (1) UTC Axe and three (3) machetes. Regrettably, one of our men, SGT Adeyemi Apata attached to SARS was hit on the thigh during the gun duel. The officer is responding to treatment at a Hospital. Efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects.

“On 20th June, 2020, upon information received that, one Alfa Muri Akinrole ‘m’ of Osoko’s compound, Apomu specialized in printing fake US dollars with intent to defraud unsuspecting victims, a team of the State Joint Task Force based at Gbongan burst his residence and on sighting the team, the said Muri Akinrole took to his heel, while one Francis Salako ‘m’ (75), Oyeleke Abiodun ‘m’ (36) and Nurudeen Akinrole ‘m’ (26) were arrested. Sum of fifty-three thousand, eight hundred US dollars (53,800$) counterfeit currency, various types of charms and handsets recovered from the scene as exhibits. Investigation is ongoing with a view to bringing all members of this syndicate to justice.”

The police boss also paraded Isiaka Adeyounbo, 75-year-
-old Jacob Ayinla, 28-year-old Oyerinde Oyeniyi, 30-year-old Adeoye Makinde and 19-year-old Afolabi Isiaka for raping different girls ranging from 7 to 15 years of age.

While Eronse Balat was also arrested for having carnal knowledge of a 23-year-old lame girl and Adeleye Fayemiwo was paraded for abusing his own daughter sexually.

While advising the youths to shun criminal acts, CP Adie gave strict warnings to parents that it would not condone any bargain plea or out of court settlement for rapist in the state.

“Let me use this medium to advise our youths in Osun State who had taken to living dangerously by engaging in cultism and other criminal activities to turn a new leaf and begin to live responsibly. A warning also goes out to them that the full weight of the law shall be brought on them as the command is prepared and already out to stamp cultism and reduce criminality to the barest level.

“For rapists, they are not going to find a safe haven in the state. Parents and victims are advised to always come forward timely with reports when it happens and never to get dissuaded from pursuing their cases to conclusion.”
