Former Oyo Deputy Governor Taofeek Arapaja has won the southwest chairmanship seat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He was declared winner of the hotly contested poll by chairman of the Congress and Benue Deputy Governor, Benson Abounu after a keenly contested race under tight security atmosphere.

Arapaja, who belongs to the camp of Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde, polled 343 votes to defeat Dr Eddy Olafeso, who scored 330. While ten votes were void.

Olafeso is of the camp of former Ekiti Governor Ayo Fayose.

In other offices contested, candidates in the camp of Oyo state Governor largely took the day.

Earlier, Fayose has declared that Makinde is the leader of the party in the zone, stating that he and his camp will accept the result of the polls in good faith.
