The Nigerian police has reportedly denied knowledge of the fact that some of its officers accompanied Usman Yusuf, executive secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), to office.

Yusuf was suspended by the NHIS governing governing board but he insisted it was illegal.

He said only President Muhammadu Buhari had the power to suspend him. The Cable reports that Jimoh Moshood who is the spokesperson of the police “failed to confirm if the force headquarters was aware of the development or not.”

Anjuguri Manzah who is the spokesman of the FCT police command, also said he was not aware of the development.

InsightMedia had reported that over 50 policemen broke the gates to the headquarters of the National Health Insurance Scheme to escort the suspended executive secretary, Professor Usman Yusuf, into the premises.

This medium also reported that the policemen fired tear gas to disperse members of staff, who had attempted to prevent Usman from gaining entry. .

 

It had earlier reported NHIS workers on Monday, October 22, blocked the entrance of the office in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

In doing so, they denied Usman Yusuf, the suspended executive secretary from gaining entrance into the office.

Channels reported that heavy security personnel were seen at the gate as workers struggled with security men while some staff loyal to the executive secretary succeeded in breaking the keys to the gate.
