Following the attack on the Constituency office of the Lawmaker representing Irepodun/Olorunda/Orolu/Osogbo federal constituency, Olubukola Oyewo, the Lawmaker has broken silence.

Oyewo in a statement by his media office condemned the attack, stating that the items stolen by the invaders are meant for an Empowerment programme slated for next month.

The statement read, “We wish to inform the general public that looters, taking advantage of ongoing protest have completely looted the Constituency Relations Office of Hon. Olubukola Oyewo, situated at No. 7, Pa Adesola Oladimeji Street, Oroki Housing Estate, Osogbo.

“As a result, all the furniture, fertilizers, equipments such as Generators, Water Pumping Machine, Spraying Machine, Beauty Salon Equipments, and other materials meant for empowerment Programmes stored in the Office, for the benefit of the Constituents have been carted away by the hoodlums. The hoodlums also went further to destroy many parts of the building leaving it in a completely dilapidated state.

“It is important to put the records straight; that the Constituency Relations Office at no time had government’s palliatives in them, and Hon. Olubukola Oyewo had earlier distributed his own palliatives during the lockdown, complimented with other gestures during the various Festivals.

“We acknowledge the right of every citizen to demonstrate peacefully, but it is important for such right to be within the law without infringement on the fundamental rights of every other citizen.

“Stealing, destruction and vandalization of properties is NOT protest. It is a crime against ourselves and our collective effort to bring good governance to bear.

“While we condemn the act in its entirety, we appeal to the hoodlums to stop using the protest as an opportunity to cause mayhem and unrest in the community and the State.”
