SDP suffers second defection in a week as former ODHA candidate, Micah dumps party

More defections has hit the Social Democratic Party in Ondo State as the candidate of the party for Ondo State House of Assembly, Owo constituency 1 in the 2019 general election, Hon Folorunsho Micah has withdrawn his membership from the party.

Micah’s defection is the second that rocked the party this week as Hon George Abbey Awosusi, a candidate of the party in the last election also withdrew his membership over the weekend m

Micah, in a statement on Tuesday in Owo, Owo local government said his intention to dump the party was informed by the inability of the party to meet the yearnings and aspirations of him and his people to enthrone good governance in the state.

He also alleged that majority of those in the party currently are business men and women, who are trading the party for personal gains.

His statement reads, “It has been almost a year since the 2019 General Elections, we have seen, observed, studied and learned though in the hard way, all these we were mentally prepared for, because we had known that while we hope and pray for the best, we were as well prepared for the worst, either ways we have learnt a great lesson of experience.

“Politics I know is fast paced and edgy, whichever hits you is a dynamic fluidity that it is, nevertheless having taken time to access the options before me, moving ahead is the only best alternative for me, the SDP we hoped for cannot thrive under this present atmosphere, although we met it that way but with the hope that we shall be able to reposition it, unfortunately even with our resources we could not achieve the set out goals.

“My hope was for an SDP with one voice and a collective sense of purpose, but sadly for me the good ones are fewer than the businessmen among us. So for me it has always been a case of us seeking for the greatness of our Jerusalem, but our Jerusalem is not seeking for our greatness, what then are we to do?

“The Yoruba adage that says “ if a horse you are riding on falls, then you may have to climb on it again “ but then I asked these questions , what if the horse is not so willing or capable of moving again?, should I stop my movement at that spot or I look for another means of transportation? In this case, I shall be opting for moving on with another means of transportation.

“On this premise and for many more silent reasons, I am opting out of anything that has to do with the SDP for the foreseeable future.

“I therefore implore all my supporters to be relatively calm and unperturbed by the recent development, as I shall be convening a meeting soon where we all shall have to decide our own fate because without you there will be no HON. FOLORUNSHO MICAH , together we shall get to our greater Jerusalem.”

He thanked the party for giving him the opportunity to contest in the last election.
