No fewer than 50 youths in Osun State are currently undergoing intensive training on Graphic Design organized by Sead Africa in partnership with Wave Academy.
The free training, which is the first phase of it, commenced on Tuesday in Osogbo, the State capital. It targets 250 youths across the State.
At the opening ceremony, relevant stakeholders in the youth development sector in the State were present. Among them is the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in the Osun, Dr Bode Olanipekun who was represented by his Technical Assistant, Mr Iyedemi Oluwasegun; Special Assistant to Governor Gboyega Oyetola on Strategic Communication, Mr Charles Adeyemi; Mr Ademola Adeyeye; An Printer, Mr Phillips Adebayo, among others.
In his welcome address the Team Lead of Sead Africa, Mr Semiu Adabanija emphasized on the importance soft skills in the present Nigeria. He said the organization, having realized how sought-after a graphic designer is, aimed at training young persons in the State on the skill.
Adabanija added that the training will be done in batches and other communities within the State will benefit from the gesture of his group.
‘Nigerian Government Needs To Get Serious’
In his lecture, Mr Phillips Adebayo called on the governments at all levels to get serious towards eradicating poverty and joblessness.
Adebayo said the era of motorcycles and grinding machines empowerment has gone and digital skills are the needed tools for transformation of the nation’s fortune.
“Nigerian government needs to get more serious. Every Friday, a new phone is launched in China. That is a result of government’s commitment to innovations.”
Be The Hope – Adeyemi tells participants
Delivering his goodwill message, Mr Charles Adeyemi admonished the trainees to be the hope of country. He urged them to be maximize the opportunity presented to them by Sead Africa.
Adeyemi said, “I urged you to be the hope of this country. The hope of those who believe their generation has failed because they can’t solve simple problem of electricity. The hope of doctors who flee country in their numbers, because they believe there’s a greener pasture somewhere. The hope students who do not want to graduate because they believe there are no jobs anywhere. Be having skills, you can become the hope.”
Commissioner for Industry and Investment, Bode Olanipekun said the State Government will partner with Sead Africa trainees by providing soft loans to them and making them resource persons during ministry’s trainings. He encourages then to be focused and determined.
Speaking with InsightMedia, one of the beneficiaries, Miss Halimat Oyeyemi described her participation as a privilege that she cherishes some, adding that she was wowed by the lectures and she’s ready to contribute her quota to the development of the society.
“It (my participation) is actually a privilege. I came here just for fun of it, like to have the knowledge. But on getting here, that has changed and I look forward to making it so big. I will surely take it further from and contribute to the economy of the State.”
When asked how much she paid, Oyeyemi said, “it’s actually free. We’re not asked to pay any amount to be here.”
Also, Master Mubarak Olawale, a resident of Ilobu in Irepodun local government area of the State, applauded the organizers for the initiative. He described the training as a turning point in his life, stating that it will go a long way in moulding his future.
