In furtherance of the collaboration between the Kwara State Government and the International Vocational, Technical and Entrepreneurship College (IVTEC), Ajase –Ipo, on Youth Empowerment and Employment Generation Scheme, another batch of 208 kwara youths will resume on Monday 7th February 2022 for skills training at the College.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Rector of the College, ‘Dr. Ade A. Somide and made available to newsmen through the Press Secretary of the College, Mrs. Grace Ige.

The programme which is being sponsored by the Kwara State Government to promote viable and measurable occupational skills training to increase the effectiveness of the Government efforts at combating youth unemployment and poverty as well as to generate employment and increase entrepreneurship opportunities among the teeming youth in the state. Over 200 beneficiaries of the programme were chosen from the sixteen Local Government Areas of the state for training in the following trades and vocations:

Automotive Mechanics
Automotive Mechatronics
Carpentry
Masonry
Plumbing
Electrical Installations and Maintenance
Winding of Electrical Machines
Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning (HVAC)
Hospitality and Tourism Management
Closed Circuit Television and Internet Access Installation
Computer Hardware Repairs and Maintenance
System Security and Networking
Web Application (Design and Development
Computer Appreciation and Desktop Publishing
Welding and Fabrication Technology

The programme entails an intensive three months in-center training, followed by a mandatory three-month industrial attachment at the appropriate industry/business. Upon successful completion of the programme, the State Government will provide qualified beneficiaries with an empowerment business start-up package to enable them start their own businesses. Also, the successful beneficiaries will be awarded a Technical and Entrepreneurship Certificate in their field of study

According to the Rector of College, the Kwara State Government has been providing full tuition fee scholarship and monthly stipend of five thousand naira each for the first batch of 208 beneficiaries that were admitted last year. This set concluded their in- center training in December 2021 and are currently on internship at the appropriate organizations.

It adds that the programme is part of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s efforts to combat youth unemployment and poverty as well as to generate employment and increase entrepreneurship opportunities among Kwara youth.

The statement however assured that all beneficiaries at the end of the training will have acquired the requisite skills to make a better living either as gainfully employed tradesmen or as entrepreneurs.
