On March 18th, 2023, during the governorship and state house of assembly elections in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, four hoodlums were arrested with a pistol and a knife on their way to polling units. The suspects were apprehended at Sapon in Abeokuta-South Local Government Area.

A soldier at the roadblock in Sapon confirmed that four persons were arrested with dangerous weapons, including a gun and a knife. The soldier stated that the suspects were caught with weapons at a polling unit, and questioned why anyone would need a gun and a knife at a polling unit. The suspects were subsequently detained and handed over to the police for further investigation.

Additionally, another suspected hoodlum was seen doing a frog jump under the Sapon bridge after being caught by some security operatives. The identity of this suspect is unknown, but it is believed that they were also attempting to disrupt the elections.
