Osun Agency for Community and Social Development Project in collaboration with the World Bank and the Osun State Government on Tuesday rekindled the hope of people of Ilesha as the Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola flagged off the reconstruction of the popular Atakunmosa market.

The project, which will be sponsored by the World Bank and the state government will cost a whopping sum of N200m.

Atakunmosa market was recently razed down by inferno, inflicting hardship on many individuals whose means of livelihood was taken away.

Speaking at the event, Governor Oyetola restated the commitment of his administration towards improving the lives of every residents of the state, irrespective of their political affiliations, adding that his administration has continued to deliver on its campaign promises.

“I am therefore happy that, today, we are able to fulfil our electoral promise, as well as our role as government to provide security and welfare for the people by kick-starting the first phase of the re construction of the market which is worth about N200 Million. This will bring relief to our poor and vulnerable market men and women in Atakumosa market when completed. – Joven Commendation.” The governor said.

“I must commend the State Community and Social Development Agency for its support as well, which has brought succour to the victims today. Our government has been up and doing in its mandate to increase access of the poor people to socio-economic and natural resources infrastructure in the State and in a sustainable manner. The impacts of our activities are being felt in all the nooks and crannies of the State.

“I would also like to give kudos to the members of benefitting groups for approaching CSDP, one of the viable and proactive agencies of State.

“Although I have no cause to doubt the capacity of the members of the constituted Group Project Management Committee (GPMC) for each group to implement and manage projects of this nature sustainably, I must not fail to advise you to always cooperate with other stakeholders from the assisting Agency, MDAs and Local Government Authorities and be receptive to ideas and technical guidance they will be offering you from time to time for optimum performance.

“I charge you to implement the project in accordance with the plan, drawings, designs, layout and quality requirements that you will be provided with

“We have a limited time frame of two months to complete the implementation of the first phase of this project. This is doable with the right mindset, total commitment and dedication. We shall ensure the enforcement of this timeline so that the beneficiaries can promptly come back to business.

‘As a Government, we will continue to give the necessary support to the operations of Osun Agency for Community and Social Development specifically in the area of prompt of release of annual Government Contributions

Oyetola said after this first phase which is supported by the World Bank, the state government will build another phase to ensure the market has enough facilities for its operations.

“As our contribution to the ongoing initiative, our government shall in addition to this CSDP assisted initiative, build another 250 stalls, which will be delivered before the end of this year.’

Earlier in her speech, the General Manager of Osun Agency for Community and Social Development, Mrs Funmi Abokede said the agency under watch had continued to bring succor to people in pains.

She said Osun CSDP will also distribute cheques of ten million naira each to ten vulnerable groups in Ijesha land, adding that it’s in line with the development agenda of state under Governor Oyetola.

“It is our believe that with full cooperation and support of His Excellency as ever, Local Government Administrators and other stakeholders in the State, World Bank and Federal Project Support Unit, there is no doubt in our mind that Osun Agency For Community and Social Development will take the State to an enviable position in terms of Community Development in the State of Osun,

“Today the State is once again benefiting from the collaboration with the World Bank; this is a unique opportunity to strengthen the livelihood of poor market men and women. We are here today to witness the presentation of cheques of about N100m to fund the construction of market stalls, Public toilets and water boreholes for ten vulnerable groups,

“Let me take this opportunity to appreciate our Task Team Leader at the

“World Bank, Prof. Foluso Okunmadewa for the enabling environment and support given to us to make this day a reality.”

Present at the venue are speaker of the state House of Assembly, Timothy Owoeye; House of Representatives member representing Ijesha south federal constituency, Lawrence Ayeni; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Charles Akinola; SUBEB Executive Chairman, Ajibola Famurewa; cabinet members; House of Assembly members, political leaders, community leaders and youths.
