Former US President Donald Trump has pleaded not guilty to 34 criminal charges during a historic court hearing in New York on Tuesday. He became the first former president to face a criminal trial. Despite the serious nature of the charges, Trump gave a defiant address to his supporters immediately after the hearing. He returned to Florida where he claimed that the case was “an insult to our country.”

During his speech, Trump criticized the judge and prosecutors and claimed that the case against him was politically motivated, despite having no evidence to back up his claims. He also listed all the ways he claims to have been persecuted, stating that “our country is going to hell.” Trump is accused of falsifying business records to hide damaging information during his 2016 election run.

Trump’s team has until August to file any motions against the case, and the next court hearing is set for December. Trump remains a 2024 White House contender, despite the ongoing legal battles. The trial is expected to be closely watched by both his supporters and detractors, and the outcome could have significant implications for his political future.
