The Senate on Thursday resolved to challenge the authority of the Federal high Court to stop the process to override the veto of President Muhammadu Buhari on the electoral acts amendments.

The resolution followed a point of order raised by the minority leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Senator Akpabio who moved under order 42 based his argument on separate of powers as enshrined in the 1999 constitution as amended.

He questioned the authority of the court as a judicial arm of government to stop the legislature from doing its conditional duties.

He concluded by moving a motion that the House should write the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen to inform him of the development .

Contributing to the motion, Majority Leader, Senator Ahmed Lawan supported the motion as moved by the minority leader.

He said, “During the election here, I voted against it but I was surprised to hear that a court has given us injunction restraining any further process in it,” he said.

The motion to direct the committee on judiciary to take over the matter was rejected by the majority of the house through a voice vote.
