The House of Representatives during the Tuesday plenary bitterly lamented on the insecurity that is battling all the zones and states of the country and asked the security agencies to find lasting solutions to the menace.

This resolution was reached after an extensive debate was done on the motion moved by Honourable Bosun Oladele, member representing Irepo/Orelope/Olorunsogo Federal constituency of Oyo State.

The House condemned the present security structure and termed it as being “grossly inadequate” to cater for the protection of lives and properties of the Nigerian citizens.

Contributing to the motion, the minority whip of the House, Honourable Umar Barde Yakubu condemned berated the conduct and reactions of the Inspector-general of Police, Ibrahim Idris over the recent attacks in Benue State and reminded the House of the vote of no confidence passed on him by the house.

He said, “Mr Speaker, the motion is very important and must be treated without fear or favour and without the affiliation of party politics. Nowhere is safe again in this country. The citizens are groaning and the Commander-in-Chief must do something about the present security structure. It was in this chamber that we passed the vote of no confidence on the Inspector-general of Police and till today, he still holds on to the position and enjoying all the benefits accruable to him”.

Another member from Enugu state, Honourable Toby Okechukwu berated the inadequacy of the officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

“It was reported that the Nigeria Police has less than Four hundred thousand officers to cater for the security needs of over one hundred and eighty million citizens. This is grossly inadequate and it must be thoroughly looked into.”

“There is an urgent to completely overhaul the present security apparatus of the country of W want a lasting solution to the incessant killings, kidnappings and attacks that has spread to all nooks and crannies of our country.

“The question should be how well are we funding our security agencies. The appropriation should also be widened to encompass the needs of these agencies. Monitoring should also be done to ensure that the funds are released and properly utilized”

A minute silence was observed for those that lost their lives in the incident that happened in Irepo/Orelope/Olorunsogo Federal constituency.
