The absence of the counsel stalled the trial of an Osun-based cleric, Prophet Adeyemi Adeniran also known as Baba Lesekese at the Federal High Court, Osogbo on Wednesday.
Adeniran, who is the founder of Great Tabernacle Miracle Church of God, is facing trial on 12-count charge bothering on sexual exploitation, deceit and trafficking in persons brought against him by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
At the resumed hearing for continuation of defence on Wednesday, Adeniran was in the court but told the court that his counsel had another engagement.
The court registrar also informed the court that the defense counsel is aware of the date because he (Registrar) personally called to inform him about it.
When the defendant was asked if he has more witnesses to call, he said he has two more but neither of them was in court.
Justice Nathaniel Ayo-Emmanuel adjourned the case till May 22, 2024, with a caution that he won’t entertain any excuse again.
