Lawmaker representing Obokun State Constituency, Adewumi Adeyemi has revealed that Governor Ademola Adeleke is interested in the recently passed Osun State Discrimination Against Persons With Disabilities (Prohibition) Bill, 2024.

InsightMedia reports that the House of Assembly under the leadership of Speaker Adewale Egbedun passed the bill during a plenary held on Tuesday.

Adeyemi, who is the sponsor of the bill, revealed that the legal framework “encompasses provisions for the welfare, health, education, rights, and overall protection of individuals with disabilities.

“Upon receiving assent, the law will establish a bureau dedicated to safeguarding the rights of persons with disabilities, led and staffed by individuals with disabilities or those with a vested interest in this vital cause.

“This legislation signifies a monumental leap towards the full integration of the disability community into our society, eliminating all forms of discriminatory practices once and for all.

“Furthermore, I’m glad to share that Governor Ademola Adeleke has shown keen interest in this bill from inception, and he is eager to sign it into law.”

The lawmaker appreciated his colleagues and leadership of the Assembly for ensuring the bill scaled through.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Assembly under the leadership of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, for their support in advancing this crucial legislation.”
