The Gombe State Government has expressed solidarity with the government and people of Borno State following the recent flood disaster that affected the state capital and surrounding areas.

The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Yahaya, represented by a high-powered delegation led by the Deputy Governor, Manassah Jatau, presented a donation of N100 million to assist the flood victims.

This was revealed in a press statement signed by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Gombe Government House, Ismaila Misilli, on Friday.

According to the statement, the governor conveyed the heartfelt sympathy of the people of Gombe State at the Government House and the Shehu of Borno’s palace in Maiduguri, stating that the visit was motivated by the strong bond between the two states.

The Secretary to the Government of Gombe State, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, said, “The news of the devastating flood reached the governor, who is currently on an official engagement abroad, and he immediately directed that the visit be made, given the close relationship between the two neighbouring states.”

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, expressed gratitude for the concern and support shown by the Gombe State Government, promising to use the donation judiciously to mitigate the effects of the flood.

The Gombe delegation also visited the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Garbai Al’amin Elkanami, to offer condolences to the people for the loss of lives and property

They prayed for the souls of the deceased and expressed hope that such disasters would not recur.

The Shehu of Borno appreciated the delegation sent by the governor, describing the disaster as more severe than the one that occurred 30 years ago.
