At least fifteen Nigerian soldiers have been reportedly killed by suspected members of the dread Boko Haram terrorists in an attack on a military base in Borno state.

Premium Times reported that a security source said that the insurgents rode into Magumeri local government area of the state on at about 6pm on Friday, May 3 and sacked the military base on Saturday.

Among those who were killed during the attack were a captain and a lieutenant. Identities of others were being withheld to allow Nigerian Army to notify their loved ones.

Nineteen other soldiers were reportedly wounded in the attack and are currently receiving treatment at military health facility in Maiduguri.

Others who survived the attack fled the base for a safer military safer facility in the state.

According to the source, the insurgents carted away several military equipment, including Toyota Hilux vehicles and guns during the attack.

The level of casualties to the terrorists is unknown. However, the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA) had claimed credits for the attack via its propaganda channels.
