House of Representatives member who made it to the ministerial nomination list of President Muhammadu Buhari has formally dumped the Accord Party for the All Progressives Congress.

The defection comes barely 24 hours after his announcement as one of ministers designate.

Nwajiuba’s defection was announced during the Wednesday plenary by deputy speaker, Ahmed Idris Wase who read a letter sent by the lawmaker.

The Imo lawmaker was recently the beneficiary of a court verdict that ousted his predecessor, Chike Okafor of the APC.

The court held that Okafor was not validly nominated by the APC. Until his defection to Accord,‎ however, Nwajiuba, who represents Ehime Mbano/Ihite Uboma/Obowo federal constituency of Imo state, ‎was of the APC.

Known as a core Buharist, it was therefore not surprising when Nwajiuba’s name surfaced, as one of the 43 ministerial nominees despite belonging to an opposition political party.

He is reputed to be a foundation member of the APC and was the secretary of the constitution drafting committee which produced the document that gave birth to APC.

He had also sserved in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003, To become a minister, he will have to resign his membership of the House of Reps.
