Reports from Akoko area of Ondo State indicate that men of the Nigerian Army deployed to a roadblock between Akungba and Ikare Akoko have allegedly raped a 300 level student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).

It was gathered that the female student (name withheld) was asked to alight from a taxi she boarded from school by the soldiers on duty Wednesday evening.

There was however tension in the area as the incident is said to have led confrontation between youths/students of the university and the soldiers deployed to the area.

Only timely intervention of the Army authorities, University’s Management and the Ondo state government averted what could have been bloody clash over the rape incident.

The soldiers were alleged to have ordered the girl into their mini barracks located beside the road on Ikare-Akungba Akoko around 6:00pm and directed her friends and other commuters inside the taxi to leave the spot.
