Women have been told to see food security in the land as a job for everyone, hence the need to embrace farming and food production by them.
Vice Chairman of Osun Farmers’ Association, Chief Hakeem Adeniyi Adelodun gave this advice when he hosted the women wing of the association who paid him familiarization visit in his office in Osun on Wednesday, September 29, 2018.
Led by the Association’s women leader, Mrs Sijuade Ishola, the women said the motive of the visit is to appreciate the invaluable efforts and quality leadership that Chief Adelodun has offered the association.
The women added that Chief Adelodun remains a pillar for all farmers in the state as he has been providing technical and financial support for farmers to ensure that their businesses grow.
In his reaction, the Vice Chairman commended the women farmers for taking profession in farming which has been believed to be male field.
He said, “statistics has shown that Nigeria is moving towards food insecurity. We have not been able to feed ourselves as a result of laziness of our youths and lack of visionary agricultural policies from the government. I want to commend your courage, vision and ruggedness to take up farming which has been wisely believed to be a make profession.
” Food Security is everyone’s job in this country, we must all go back to farming and I believe you women, being mothers of nation have a very integral role to play towards making Nigeria a food secured nation. I urge you to remain steadfast and be ready to tackle challenges that come your way.
” Concerning the support, I want to reiterate that I’ll continue to provide leadership and support to every aspiring farmer in Osun and Nigeria at large.”
Among the highlights of the event is the presentation of awards to Chief Adelodun by the women.
