Governor of the State of Osun, Mr Gboyega Oyetola and the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt Hon. Timothy Owoeye have assured the citizens and residents of the state that the year 2020 will witness a complete turnaround.
The duo gave the assurance on Monday night during the maiden edition of Christmas carol organised by the state assembly, tagged “Expression 01”.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Wole Oyebamiji, Oyetola stated that Christmas is a festival for the remembrance and celebration of the birth of Christ whose life symbolises peace, love, sacrifice, giving, tolerance and other tenets engrained in service to humanity.
He said: “As we celebrate Christmas and praise our Creator, let us all manifest the above-mentioned tendencies to our neighbours, especially love and giving. Christ came principally for the poor and the needy. Let us all remember and reach out to them as we bask in the euphoria of the Yuletide.
He added that “As believers, we should always remember that aesthetically in the poor and the needy, is one of the principal ways of attracting God’s blessing.”
In address, Speaker Owoeye told the congregation that Christmas season is a period of love and sacrifice, saying these are the things required to ensure that the government realises its dream for the development of the state.
“This is a season of thanksgiving, love and tolerance. It is a period that we must all learn from the lessons of the birth of Jesus Christ.
“We must all learn to be our brother’s keepers, love our neighbours so that the death of Jesus Christ will not be in vain”, Owoeye stressed.
Highlights of the event are praise and worship songs, preaching, ministrations and prayer for the uplift of the state and the country at large.
Among those present are the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon Funminiyi Afuye, Senator representing Osun Central, Dr Ajibola Basiru, Deputy Speaker Olanrewaju Popoola, members of the state assembly, among others.
