A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Alh Babatunde Oreitan has been murdered by suspected assassins in Oyo, a situation that is said to be causing panic among the party faithful as well as the people of the state.

According to The Nation, Oreitan was killed in the afternoon of Wednesday, January 22.

The report described the victim as one of the leaders of the party in the Ona Ara council area of the state adding that the gunmen snuffed his life out after storming his house located in Ibadan, the capital of the state just after observing the Dhur (1:30pm) prayer in the mosque located in his premises.

Details of the act are still not clear at the time of this report and the report added that efforts to get the police in the state to speak on the issue were not successful.

It, however, said the incident was confirmed by Afeez Mobolaji Repete, the deputy national youth leader of the APC. Repete, a former aide to immediate past governor of the state, Abiola Ajimobi, on youths and students matters, called the late politician a devout Muslim.

“Alhaji Babatunde Oreitan, you were a principled politician, a devoted Muslim and a political leader. Those that killed you will never have peace. Rest in peace Baba Gbemisola, Baba Lateef,” he said.
