Time is abundant and gifts of nature. Its presence, usage and accessibility are also free and unlimited.

No matter how you slice it, there are only 24 hours (approximately 86,400 seconds) in a day. That is the time deposited into your life, my life and everybody’s life per day.

This is probably one of the most concentrated syrup of truth you are about to consume. So, if you want to be on top of your time to maximize productivity in your different endeavours, prepare to drink it all as you feel the strong taste.

During this lockdown period, it is your believe that you have a whole day in your hands. Nobody knows when this is going to end. So, as long as it continues, you will be thinking you have enough time.

Mind you, amidst this pandemic, this is the perfect time for you to achieve something great. What to do is not the problem right? Then what? It is definitely how to approach them because of many tasks on your to-do list.

Wait! Do you know the pain of getting busy throughout the day and ended up realizing you haven’t accomplished anything on your to-do list?

That is exactly the cost of time-wasting on a small and personal issue. It will be compounded to pose a serious threat to u if the tips you will be reading are not put into usage.

Before I talk about how to be in control of time, let me take a short moment to smoke out the real myths and facts about time:

Time is free but it is priceless.
You cannot own it but you can use it.
You cannot keep it but you can spend it.

Despite the facts said about time, it is pertinent to know that you can never get more time, and equally, time can never be sufficient enough for our respective endeavours because time is on the run and refuses to stop, the reason you always say “I don’t have time” you wear it like a badge of honour.

Don’t you say that? Even me, I do, but then.
Can you still remember 86,400 seconds that are being deposited into our lives daily? You can. Good!

This is where we are going.

Now, Imagine there is a bank that credits your account each morning with $86,400 same as 86,400 seconds and it carries over no balance from day to day.
Every evening the bank deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day.

How would you spend the two? I know you wouldn’t consult anyone to spend the former.

If you fail to use the day’s deposits, the loss is yours. There is no drawing against tomorrow.

You must live in the present on today’s deposits. Invest it to get from it the utmost in health, happiness and success!

The amazing thing is each of us has such a bank. Its name is TIME.

Now the tips:

1. Break down the task: I will start by quoting the word of Henry Ford that says “Nothing is particularly hard if you divide it into small jobs” Henry was right because we get occupied and distracted by multiple tasks. There are many tasks before you and how you break down the task is up to you, whether it is by function, timetable, responsibility, purpose etc. the point here is to break down the task.

2. Abuse procrastination: Procrastination is the thief of time. It is an inner civil war to be fought with the certainty of our subconscious mind. Someone told me it cost us so much that a week of procrastination can cause a year of repair. Yes! I agreed. If you want to make progress with your time, you’ve to avoid procrastination.

3. The setting of Priorities: Bear in mind that nobody can set your agenda for you. Maintaining the discipline of practising your priorities can make a huge difference in time consciousness. In this regard, you have to do first things first i.e. what gives you the highest return. Doing this, you’ve shielded yourself from distraction.

4. Organization: Organize and compose yourself and the tasks in such a way that you will see at a glance what needs doing. This improves self-esteem and motivation to embark and proceed to the next task.

5. Execution: This is the implementation of your prioritized schedule. Assign a deadline (goal) for each task or project. Assign a deadline for each task. Reward your accomplishments with small pleasures to motivate yourself to accomplish designated goals. E.g. by playing, pressing phone, listen to music etc. Don’t forget the relaxation time. Get enough sleep.

Before you go, I wish to remind you that the two ever great teachers are TIME and LIFE. Life teaches us how to make good use of our time and in turn, time teaches us the value of life.
