Members of the communities that benefitted from the project partly funded by the Osun Community and Social Development Project have continued to narrated how the partnership with the agency helped them surmount their challenges.
Leaders of different communities who benefited from water, electrification, schools, health and capacity building for vulnerable groups on Tuesday channelled their appreciation to the management of the agency, Government of the State of Osun and the World Bank.
This was done shortly after the General Manager, Mrs Funmi Abokede briefed press men on the achievements recorded by the agency in the last eleven years.
Speaking at the press conference, Mr Samuel Adeniran from Idi Ako in Ife South local government area, explained that the only school in their community was dilapidated before the intervention of the CSDP. He said parents had withdrawn their children from the school.
He said, “we’re here to thank the Osun CSDP over the school project we benefitted from them. Before their intervention, the only school in our area was dilapidated and it was not conducive for students again. Many parents had withdrawn their children and those who could not send their children to private schools left them.
“But as the agency intervened, the school has become a cynosure of all eyes. Parents returned their children to the school. We thank the agency under Mrs Abokede and everyone that supported us.”
In her own narration, Mrs Oluwakemi Ojuade from Ikire Ile, said her community approached the CSDP for a water project in 2011 and they were able to sink a motorized borehole through intervention of the CSDP. According to her, the community suffered chronic shortage of water and the available one was becoming a source of diseases that spread across the community.
“We’re here to thank the CSDP for the water project we benefitted in 2011. Everyone in Ikire Ile is happy as we’re all benefiting from the water project. Maintenance has been out responsibility and we’re doing it. Since 2011, no cholera or outbreak of any other disease as we did witness before”, Ojuade said.
A representative of Oguro community, Mr Dayo Ola narrated to the newsmen how his community did trek about 7km before they can access healthcare. He said even pregnant women will be taken on motorcycles to the hospital during labour.
“Before CSDP help us with financing of the only health center in our community, everyone did trek about 7km before accessing healthcare delivery. But with the support of the CSDP, we have been able to build a maternity in our town and it’s serving the purpose. Pregnant women are now delivered easily and Heath delivery is available,” Mr Dayo said.
