Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State has promised to support the NDDC Interim Administrator, Mr. Efiong Akwa, in his efforts to reposition the Commission for better service and project delivery to the Niger Delta region.
Governor Emmanuel was speaking when a delegation of the Commission’s directors, led by the Interim Administrator, paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Uyo.
The Governor advised the NDDC boss to put things in place to ensure corporate governance in the Commission, adding that it was needed to make NDDC more responsive to its mandate.
He said: “We expect that with your private sector experience, you will make a difference in NDDC. For too long NDDC has not met its mandate because it has not been properly run. It needs a proper governance structure and I believe that you can help to create that in the place.”
The governor assured of the preparedness of the state government to partner with NDDC because the Commission had shown readiness to work with Akwa Ibom State. He stated: “Make use of the opportunity you have now and leave a legacy in the region no matter how short the time of your administration will be.”
