The All Progressives Congress in Ogun State on Saturday held parallel congresses amidst gunshots.

Loyalists of the state governor, Dapo Abiodun and his predecessor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun converged on two separate venues in Abeokuta and held paralleled congresses which produced two executives of the state.

While Abiodun and his loyalists held their congress at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, Amosun’s loyalists held theirs at the Ake Palace ground, Abeokuta.

The two factions embraced consensus arrangement which was ratified by voice votes from the delegates at the congress.

Abiodun’s faction produced former Chairman of Caretaker Committee of the APC in the state, Chief Yemi Sanusi as the new state chairman of the party.

Amosun’s faction elected former chairman of the party in the state, Chief Derin Adebiyi as the new chairman of the party in the state.

Meanwhile, pandemonium broke out when some hoodlums invaded the venue of Amosun’s factional congress.

The thugs who invaded the venue shot into the air to disperse the loyalists of Amosun, a former governor of the state.

Our correspondent gathered that the gunmen invaded the venue twice to disrupt the activities.

It was gathered that the Ake Palace venue had earlier been sealed by the police in the state, but was later reopened for the loyalists of Amosun.

Amosun’s loyalists, drawn from all the local government areas of the state, were just settling down for the business of the day when the thugs invaded the venue.

Our correspondent gathered that the violence was allegedly perpetrated by some members of the transportation union in the state.

While Amosun did not show up at either of the congresses, Abiodun was seen leading other members of the state executive council to the venue of his factional congress.

Addressing the members after the election, Abiodun charged the new executive members to be loyal to the party.

Reacting to the paralleled congress held by Amosun’s faction, Abiodun warned against undermining his power.

The governor said he would not allow anyone, no matter how highly placed he is to sabotage the peace being enjoyed in the state.
