There was a mild drama in Niger Assembly during the 2022 budget presentation on Thursday, November 4 as Governor of the State arrived late for the exercise.
Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello arrived late for the presentation at the Assembly Complex, delaying the budget proceedings for over 25 minutes.
Speaker of the House, Abdullahi Bawa Wuse, who supposed to have received the Governor earlier, entered the Chambers to start the plenary around 10.30 am after which the opening prayer was said.
The proceedings for the day were read out with the presentation of the 2022 budget by the Governor as the main item.
When Wuse ordered the Majority Leader, Sale Ibrahim representing Kontagora Constituency was asked to usher Sani- Bello into the chamber to present the budget estimate, the Speaker was informed the Governor was not yet in the Assembly Complex.
Making excuses for his lateness, the Speaker said, “Ladies and Gentlemen, the Governor is on his way to the Assembly, we will wait until he comes before we begin. I can assure you that he is very close to the Assembly and will soon be here.”
Despite the assurance, it took the Governor over 25 minutes to arrive the Complex for the presentation.
Many lawmakers have started raising eyebrows over the development.
