Two days after she was beaten by a 400 level student, a female lecturer at the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Ilorin (Unilorin), Mrs Maymunat Zakariyyah has remained in hospital receiving treatment.

According to reports gathered, the lecturer was beaten by a student identified as Captain Walz on Thursday.

Captain Walz reportedly entered the lecturer’s office and started assaulting her. Mrs Zakariyyah tried to escape into another office but the student ran after her and strangled her till she passed out.

The Director of Corporate Affairs of the institution, Kunle Akogun, confirmed the incident and stated that the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sulyman Age Abdulkareem, in company of the Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Professor Adenike Oladiji, the Director, University Health Services, Dr Abdulrasheed Odunola and a few other staff visited the victim and her family, on Saturday.

However, the lecturer is now in stable condition and recuperating in hospital, while the student is currently in the Police custody.
