A former Registrar of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Dr Oladele Al-Hassan Ogunleye has called the Osun State House of Assembly, the National Assembly and the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali to come to his aid as his life is in ‘serious’ danger.
Ogunleye, whose served as the Registrar of the institution between 2010 and 2020, alleged the Rector of the school, Dr. John Taiwo Adekolawole as being behind his threats to his life. He asked the police authority to protect by investigation a case of gun-running and attempted murder brought against him by one Rotimi Adekunle Orowole.
The Former Registrar said this on Wednesday during a press conference he, together with his lawyer, Kanmi Ajibola addressed in Osogbo, Osun State capital.
He narrated how the Rector connived with some police officers led by one Supol Isaac Adekunle Omoleye and Orowole to frame him up by alleging him of gun-running and attempted murder. He said he has written several petitions to the police commissioner in Osun State to investigate the case but has got no response till date.
Ogunleye vs Adekolawole: How it all started?
According to Ogunleye, shortly after Adekolawole assumed office as the Rector, Adekolawole issued Ogunleye a query and also went ahead to redeploy registry staff under him. He said the crisis started in 2013, days after Adekolawole lost his first bid to be lead the institution .
Ogunleye said, “Shortly after he assumed office in 2017, a exactly a month, Adekolawole issued me a query and redeployed registry staff under me. I confronted him and he insisted on his decisions.
“Later on December 4th, 2017, I held a meeting with and I asked what was really happening. He explained that I didn’t not support his candidacy to become Rector and that I didn’t support his marriage to his second wife. My decision not to support his marriage to his second was based on my belief that the marriage was not necessary. Though, I later agreed to support him on conditions but he didn’t accede to those conditions. But I’m amazed that he still held on to that issue because we have settled it.
“So as we moved on but he made it clear that he was not ready to work with me. On different times, he would called me to sign some documents meant to siphon money but I did reject it wholely.”
Ogunleye said he got to know that the Adekolawole was the one behind his ordeal after with the police after he (Adekolawole) said it at a board meeting that the former Rector, Dr Patrick Hussain bought a pump action shotgun and it’s with me.
“During a council meeting, Adekolawole told the Council members that I have the former Rector bought a pump action shotgun and the gun was with me. He said it’s the gun that I gave the alleged assassin to kill him and two others. This was when I knew he was behind all the issues.”
Ogunleye demands
When asked what he wanted, Ogunleye called said the people trailing him recently are obviously after his life. He called on the Osun State House of Assembly under the leadership of Hon. Timothy Owoeye and the National Assembly to proffer him some level of protection as his life is being threatened.
“My life is being threatened. Though, my lawyer has filed a fundamental rights suit at the Osun State High Court, I want to call on my representative at the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr Desmond Ojo and the House at large to look at my issue and wade into the matter. I want the National Assembly to also help save my life.
“I call on the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali to set up investigation into involvement of officer Isaac Adekunle Omoleye, who led some police officers to arrest me and detain me at Adeniji Adele Police station in Lagos.”
Adekolawole reacts
When asked to comment on the allegations against him, the Rector, Adekolawole said he has nothing to say on this matter.
He said, “Ogunleye should go and answer his case of gun-running and attempted murder he has with police. I have no issue with me.”
