Super Eagles of Nigeria on Sunday crashed out of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations after losing to COVID-hit Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.

The match ended with Nigerian team reduced to 10 men as Everton midfielder, Alex Iwobi was shown a red card.

Prior to the game, President Muhammadu Buhari had a video conference call with the team to wish them success in the encounter against the North African side.

Following the results, Nigerians have taken to social media to attribute the defeat to the call made by the President. Many said the call by Buhari to support any Nigerian athlete or team has not resulted to success.

#SuperEagles played very well today but that terribly dangerous call from Mr. FAILURE @MBuhari was the problem. buhari is bad luck personified, if you doubt me ask The people of Nigeria.May Buhari never happen to you! #RevolutionNow #

Reno Omokri, former presidential spokesperson tweeted, “Oh oh! Why did NFF allow Buhari speak with the Super Eagles players now! What is wrong with NFF? Have the forgotten what happened after he spoke to Anthony Joshua? Or Eagles in the last AFCON? Please we want to win. This nonsense must not repeat itself!

Iwobi red card, Iheanacho yellow card. All the time they have been playing this never happened. Why is it that it is the day they spoke to Buhari that these series of unwelcome events rained on us!Energies are very contagious. Avoid negative people!

Another Twitter user, Niferiti said, “He destroyed the economy. Pigeons refused to fly. Anthony Joshua lost his match. He called the Super Eagles & voooom, they were knocked out. Whatever you do in life, avoid Buhari.”
