Ayodele Falomo, 56, and his son Ayoola, 23, have been brought before an Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court by the Ogun Police Command for assaulting and beating Dr. Pelumi Somorin over the death of a family member.
According to reports, the two assaulted Somorin, who worked at the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, the capital of Ogun State, Abeokuta, shortly after their family member was given the fatal diagnosis.
On Tuesday, December 20, 2022, the deceased was reported to have passed away from heart failure.
Inspector Olaide Rawlings, the prosecution’s attorney, told the court that the defendants committed the crimes at the FMC in Idi-Aba, Abeokuta. She also said that the defendants—the deceased’s husband and son—attacked Somorin while blaming her for the death of their family member.
The attorney claimed that the offense broke sections 516 and 355 of the Ogun State Criminal Laws from 2006. The defendants asserted that the doctor was negligent in murdering a member of their family.
Ayodele and Ayoola claimed they were incensed by the doctor’s negligence, which ultimately caused the death of their loved one.
According to the duo, the medical doctor was pressing her phone as the deceased was groaning in pain. Corroborating his father’s claim, Ayoola said he threatened to take the picture of the doctor and post it on the Internet.
According to him, she dragged the phone with him to stop him from taking her picture. Meanwhile, during the court sitting, the Magistrate, I.O. Abudu, gave the parties a chance to resolve the matter amicably.
The defendants, however, said they had written an apology letter to the management of the hospital, the police and the state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
The pair claimed that the doctor was on the phone while the deceased was writhing in agony. Ayoola claimed he threatened to photograph the doctor and post it online, supporting his father’s assertion.
He claims that she dragged the phone behind him to prevent him from taking her photo. The Magistrate, I.O. Abudu, gave the parties a chance to settle the dispute amicably during the court session.
However, the defendants claimed they had sent letters of apology to the hospital administration, the police, and the state chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
