PDP Campaigner and House of Reps Member, Chinyere Igwe Arrested with $500,000 After Presidential Election

A member of the House of Representatives, Chinyere Igwe, has been arrested by the police in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The arrest occurred just hours after the conclusion of the presidential election, which was held on Saturday, February 23, 2023.

Igwe, who is also one of the campaigners of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, was apprehended with the sum of $500,000 during a stop-and-search operation along Aba Road, Port Harcourt.

The lawmaker, who represents the Port Harcourt Federal Constituency 2, was taken into custody on Friday, February 24, 2023, for questioning by security operatives.

Confirming the development, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that “investigations are ongoing, and he will be charged to court when the investigation is completed.”

The arrest of the PDP campaigner and House of Reps member has caused a stir in political circles, with many wondering about the source of the $500,000 cash. It is also unclear at this time if the arrest is connected to any electoral malpractice during the presidential election held on Saturday
