Students under the aegis of Federation of Ifon-Orolu Students, FIOS, on Friday held a rally to sensitise members of the community of the dangers associated with vote buying.

The sensitization, which started from the AUD Primary School down to Janta, Olufon market and Orisatoyinbo shopping, was led by the President of the union, Comrade Abdullateef Jamiu.

The main message of over 100 students was to call on electorates to participate in the next general elections but ensure they vote for candidates of their choice without being influenced by immediate financial gains.

The students described the electoral process as a means of chosing a leader for another four years, stating that the decision should be based on competence, character and capability of the candidate.

“We’re here to sensitise the members of public on the need to vote on elections day and not to sell their votes. The era of dibo ki osebe (vote and cook soup) is gone. Candidates must be elected based on their capabilities and competence.

“We want the youths to stay positive and not engage in any act of violence while exercising their franchise. This is one of our messages today.”

While at the Olufon market, which is one of the largest markets in Osun State, the students enlightened market women and men on the need to avoid violence and stay positive on election day.

Presidential and national assembly elections hold on February 25 while the State assembly hold on March 11 as Osun State will not be having governorship election.
