*says Ogun mandate temporarily stolen

The zonal leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party in the South West has commended the efforts of the party faithful in the zone and charged all stakeholders to reconcile all aggrieved members for the progress of the party.

This was contained in a communique jointly signed and made available to pressmen by the National Vice Chairman of the PDP, Hon Olasoji Adagunodo, and the Zonal Publicity Secretary of the Party, Chief Sanya Atofarati on, Saturday, April 1st

The southwest PDP said that its desk review shows that the party won the governorship elections in Ogun State, noting that the mandate was only temporarily stolen and would be retrieved in no distant time.

The PDP zonal leadership again congratulates the Oyo chapter of the Party and his excellency HE Seyi Makinde and Osun state chapter of PDP and HE Nurudeen Ademola ADELEKE as well as OGUN state chapter and HE Hon Ladi Adebutu for the victory recorded at the gubernatorial and house of assembly elections in their respective states.

Thereafter, the 6 state chapters within the zone were urged to start the process of reconciliation in preparation for the task ahead and the lasting peace and growth of the party.

The statement reads in part, “we congratulate all newly elected PDP governors, senators, house of representatives and state house of assembly members, especially in the South West.

“The zone appreciates the commendable efforts of all the party leaders, stakeholders, and the entire party faithful for their strong will and for winning many of the contested seats for the party in the just concluded elections.

“To consolidate on this milestone, the zone calls for a cordial resolution of the crises confronting the party at all levels and recommends the setting up of a truth and reconciliation committee to achieve lasting peace and unity for the progress and growth of the party.”

“The National Working Committee has led by example and commendably reversed the suspension of notable leaders across state chapters in Nigeria. This, without a doubt, is a good way to calm frayed nerves and concentrate on what counts. We hereby encourage all state chapters, especially in the zone to embrace this model to foster peace among party faithful and for true reconciliation.

“In the interest of peace and the required stability of the party, we also commend the NWC resolved that the Deputy National Chairman (North) His Excellency, Amb. Umar Ililya Damagum assumes the National Chairmanship of our Party in an acting capacity with effect from, Tuesday, March 28, 2023. We congratulate our Acting Chairman and commend his noble efforts toward uniting the PDP.”
