The South-South zonal chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has given social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, a one-week deadline to publicly apologize for remarks made against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The party accused the activist of blurring the line between advocacy and defamation, warning him against further attacks on the Senate President.

In a statement issued in Abuja, APC Zonal Organizing Secretary, Blessing Agbomhere, condemned the influencer’s viral video criticizing Akpabio’s participation in the Nigerian delegation to Pope Francis’ funeral in Rome.

The delegation, led by President Bola Tinubu, included Akpabio among five high-ranking officials. In the video, VeryDarkMan labeled the trip “shameful,” questioning Akpabio’s moral standing to represent Nigeria while the country faces significant security challenges.

Agbomhere fired back, accusing the influencer of using activism as a cover for personal attacks and misinformation. He stressed that Akpabio was on an official mission, appointed by President Tinubu to represent the country.

Defending Akpabio’s inclusion in the Vatican delegation, Agbomhere described him as a devout Catholic and respected family man, saying he was a worthy representative at such a solemn global event.

He demanded that VeryDarkMan issue an unreserved public apology within seven days to prevent further harm to Akpabio’s image and the government’s credibility.

The statement also touched on Nigeria’s security situation, noting that the Tinubu administration is actively engaging with security chiefs to develop effective responses to ongoing threats.

“These problems can’t be fixed overnight,” Agbomhere said, “but the government remains committed to protecting the lives and property of all Nigerians.”
