US President Joe Biden’s official visit to the Republic of Ireland continues, as he prepares to address both houses of parliament later today. Biden has been warmly welcomed by thousands of people during his trip, including a visit to distant relatives in Carlingford.
On Wednesday, Biden met briefly with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak before traveling to Belfast to meet with the leaders of Northern Ireland’s five main parties. Later today, he will meet with Irish President Michael D Higgins before holding further talks with Taoiseach (Irish PM) Leo Varadkar.
Biden’s address to a joint sitting of the Oireachtas (Ireland’s Parliament) will make him the fourth US president to do so. The event is scheduled for around 15.45 local time and is eagerly anticipated by both Irish citizens and those around the world who are interested in the special relationship between the US and Ireland.
