In a significant move towards fostering empowerment and combating poverty, the Emi-Kola Afolabi Foundation (EKAF), a prominent non-governmental organization headquartered in Osun State, has empowered 18 widows cutting across various communities in the state.

The empowerment initiative, on Saturday took place at the private residence of the organization’s founders, Sir (Prince) James Adekola Afolabi and Lady (Chief) Lucy Emiola Afolabi, located in Osogbo.

The event aimed not only to uplift these widows from their current economic circumstances but also to provide them with sustainable avenues for self-reliance.

Distinguished guests and dignitaries graced the occasion, including a representative of the Osun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and President of the Network of Non-Governmental Organizations (NETNOS) in Osun State.

Speaking with our correspondent, Sir Afolabi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to give back to society, attributing it to divine privilege and the unwavering support of his children.

The octogenarian said, “We’ve made a commitment to continue contributing to society as long as we live. This is one of the fulfilment of such commitment.”

Prince Afolabi shed light on the challenges brought on by economic shifts, stating, “The removal of subsidies and the increased cost of commodities have inevitably impacted the number of beneficiaries we can support. We all must do our best to help those in need.”

Commending EKAF for its remarkable societal contributions, Comr. Michael Ebofi, President of NETNOS
urged others to follow suit. He asserted that “Non-governmental organizations play a crucial role in development and empowerment, bridging gaps where government resources falls short. All NGOs must emulate what this foundation is doing. It’s a great project.”

Representing the Commissioners for Women and Children Affairs, Mrs. Kaffy Bolanle, described the empowerment as humanitarian gesture despite their advanced age. She hailed the founders for their enduring dedication to uplifting others.

Among the beneficiaries, Mrs. Junnah Omole from Iree, Boripe local government area shared her happiness and extended heartfelt gratitude to the founders for their unwavering support in improving the lives of widows.
