Some students of Ebira Muslim Community College Okengwe (EMCCO) in Okene Local Government Area, Kogi State, have allegedly beaten one of their teachers, Mr. Muktar Salihu, to the point of coma.

The students, believed to be in SS2, reportedly acted under the guise of a cult group and humiliated the Physics teacher as part of a broader scheme to take control of the school.

The leader of the group, identified as Abdulbatin, is said to be the son of a local traditional ruler, the Opokitipo of the Esusu clan in Okengwe.

At the time of writing, Mr. Salihu is receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

One of the school’s staff has called on relevant authorities to intervene and prevent further incidents.

“We urge the State Ministry of Education, the State Education Board, security agencies, and other concerned bodies to take immediate action, bring the perpetrators to justice, and restore discipline in our schools,” the teacher said.

Vanguard reports that the District Police Officer has intervened in the situation and has instructed the traditional ruler to ensure his son’s appearance tomorrow.
