Nigeria faces a nationwide blackout after its electricity grid experienced a complete failure early on Thursday morning.
Reports indicate that the shutdown happened around 12:40 a.m. on September 14, 2023, disrupting power supply to distributors throughout the country. Key figures in the power industry and representatives from electricity distribution companies have verified this event.
Enugu Electricity Distribution Company Plc publicly addressed the situation with an announcement titled ‘Notice of Total System Collapse’ on the same day.
Their statement highlights that this grid failure has impacted their service areas, including Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states.
They are now awaiting further updates from the National Control Centre in Osogbo. Emeka Ezeh, the Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, confirmed the news.
Interestingly, just a week prior, the Transmission Company of Nigeria, responsible for the grid, celebrated 400 days without any grid collapses.
Further updates are awaited.
