Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has filed a N1.2 billion lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Assembly over alleged violations of his fundamental human rights.

This legal action follows allegations stemming from activist VeryDarkMan’s purported audio recording, claiming Bobrisky paid EFCC officials N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.

The crossdresser, who was sentenced to six months in prison on April 12 and released on August 5, allegedly served his term in a private residence, facilitated by his “godfather” and Haliru Nababa, the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).

Bobrisky has since denied the authenticity of the recording and threatened to sue VeryDarkMan for defamation.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions has initiated a probe into the bribery claims, inviting Bobrisky, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyode, Nababa, and VeryDarkMan for questioning.

In a recent Instagram post, Bobrisky shared a court order dated October 10, barring the EFCC and the National Assembly from further harassment, detention, or any attempt to declare him wanted.

His lawsuit claims that EFCC’s actions were based on hearsay from a WhatsApp call shared by VeryDarkMan, resulting in public ridicule, threats, and invasion of privacy.

Bobrisky is seeking N200 million from the EFCC for alleged psychological trauma and N1 billion from the National Assembly for infringing on his rights, including the right to fair hearing, privacy, and freedom from discrimination. The lawsuit emphasizes damages related to mental distress, stigmatisation, and violation of his personal and family life.
