Renowned actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo has shared the inspiration behind his latest film, Seven Doors.
According to him, the story draws from the experiences of a king he was privileged to know personally.
Speaking during an interview with Saturday Beats, Adebayo emphasized the importance of preserving culture through storytelling.
He explained, “It is extremely important to preserve our culture. Creating films that showcase the beauty of our heritage is one way to ensure that future generations can learn from and appreciate it.”
He revealed that the idea for Seven Doors was sparked by the challenges faced by a particular king. “I was fortunate to be close to a king, and the trials he endured inspired the concept of the movie.”
“People often see kings as mini-gods, which they are to an extent, but they tend to forget that they are humans too, with blood running through their veins. They face immense struggles both before and after ascending the throne, and that’s what we portrayed in the film.”
Beyond its cultural themes, Adebayo highlighted that Seven Doors is ultimately a love story. “I also want to convey that love is above all. When there’s a clash between love and tradition, love always triumphs,” he stated.
Addressing a kissing scene with co-star Chioma Chukwuka, Adebayo clarified, “I was simply interpreting the role based on the character analysis. It’s all part of storytelling.”
He further shared his favorite moment from the production. “For me, the best scene was when the chiefs were laid on the floor and beaten. Interestingly, I wasn’t even part of that scene,” he said.
