Prominent human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has thrown his weight behind the Court of Appeal’s judgment, affirming that Kano State can only have one emir.

Speaking at the 21st Memorial Lecture of Chief Gani Fawehinmi in Lagos, Falana stated that the 16th emir of Kano is here to stay despite ongoing challenges.

He emphasized the importance of adhering to the law, pointing out that the traditional institution is not a fundamental right matter and that the Federal High Court lacks jurisdiction in chieftaincy issues.

Falana also called on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to intervene and prevent legal misguidance that could fuel further confusion, stressing that there must be unity in leadership.
