The Ondo State Police Command has arrested Elela Monday for allegedly killing his 14-year-old son, Tope Elela, in the Ajowa Akoko area of Akoko North-West Local Government.
The incident occurred when the father reportedly buried the boy in a shallow grave beneath a banana tree behind their house.
According to state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Wilfred Afolabi, Monday was recently apprehended as part of an ongoing effort to capture suspected criminals in the area. The police were alerted on December 30 by an anonymous tip-off about the murder.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed that his son was involved in criminal activities and frequently brought shame to the family.
In response, he and his wife made the decision to kill the boy to end the embarrassment, Afolabi explained in a statement.
In a related development, the commissioner also addressed a recent cult clash in Owo town, which led to the deaths of four individuals. So far, 25 suspects have been arrested in connection with the violence.
One of the arrested individuals, Olamide Ogunseyila, 28, admitted to being a member of a cult group. The remaining suspects are being interrogated to determine their involvement.
The police are also pursuing Steven Dada (alias “Ogodo”) and others linked to the criminal activities. Afolabi emphasized his commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of Ondo residents, urging the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
