Access Bank has paid tribute to Herbert Wigwe, the former CEO of Access Holdings, his wife Chizoba, and their son Chizzy, who tragically lost their lives in a helicopter crash in California on February 9, 2024.
In a heartfelt statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, the bank commemorated their memory, highlighting the significant impact they had on the institution and the broader community.
“Today marks one year since the world stood still for us. On this day, we lost Herbert, Doreen, and Chizi—three extraordinary individuals who left a lasting imprint on our hearts and lives,” the statement read.
“One year on, we still feel the void, but we also feel the weight of their legacy—one that inspires us to be better, to do better, and to strive for greatness.”
The bank continued, “As we reflect, we carry forward the values they instilled in us and honor their memory by walking the path they laid before us. Forever in our hearts.”
The Wigwes were among six victims who perished when their helicopter crashed near the Mojave Desert in California. The tragic incident sent shockwaves through Nigeria’s business and financial sectors, as Herbert Wigwe was a leading figure in the country’s banking industry.
A remembrance service for Herbert, Chizoba, and Chizi Wigwe is currently taking place at Eko Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria.
