The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Moshood Jimoh, has said the command has restored the security detail of the Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda.

Jimoh stated this on Thursday while addressing a press briefing at the command’s headquarters in Ikeja, the state capital.

The commissioner said Meranda’s security detail was initially withdrawn for audit purposes, adding that the withdrawal was not done out of an ulterior motive.

It was earlier reported that all security aides attached to Meranda, including police officers, were earlier withdrawn.

A source close to the Speaker confirmed that Meranda was now vulnerable.

“All the Speaker’s security aides have been withdrawn. All the security aides attached to the House of Assembly have also been withdrawn,” the source said, lamenting that “the speaker is now vulnerable.”

According to reports by Punch, The spokesperson for Meranda, Ganzallo Victor, confirmed saying, “We don’t know why the authorities have done that, but all the police officers and other security details attached to her have been withdrawn. She’s on her own at the moment.”

Meanwhile, all aides attached to the ousted speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, were restored.

“They have been restored all Obasa’s security aides as of this morning,” the source said.
