The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced the launch of its contactless passport application system in select European countries to simplify the process of acquiring or renewing passports for Nigerians living there.

In a statement issued from Abuja, NIS Public Relations Officer, Mr. Akinsola Akinlabi, shared that the system will officially be introduced in Europe on February 7, 2025, with Nigerians in the United Kingdom and Ireland being the first to benefit. This follows the successful rollout of the system in Canada on November 5, 2024.

The European rollout marks the second phase of the NIS’s global initiative for Nigerians living abroad.

NIS Comptroller General, Kemi Nandap, emphasized that the contactless system, available for download on the Google Play Store via the NIS mobile app, allows Nigerians to renew their passports without the need for an in-person visit to any passport office for biometric data collection.

Nandap reaffirmed the NIS’s commitment to enhancing service delivery through innovation, ensuring that Nigerians worldwide have access to more efficient and convenient services.
