The Kano State Censorship Board has directed the immediate closure of all entertainment centres across the state, including event centres popularly known as gala houses and Disc Jockey (DJ) operators.

The directive was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman.

According to the statement, the suspension will take effect from Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and remain in force until the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

“Effective from Wednesday, 18 February 2026, all such venues will remain closed until the end of the holy month of Ramadan,” the statement read.

It added that the enforcement of the directive will commence from 10:00 p.m. on the same day.

The board explained that the decision was taken to ensure that residents observe the Ramadan fast and engage in religious activities in a calm and distraction-free environment.

It noted that the closure will last throughout the fasting period, while the date for reopening—especially during Eid celebrations—will be communicated later.

The board urged all relevant stakeholders to cooperate and comply with the directive, stressing that it aligns with the law establishing the agency and its responsibility to regulate entertainment activities in the state.

It also prayed for a peaceful and healthy Ramadan, asking God to grant residents the grace to witness the month in mercy and prosperity.
