The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended five individuals involved in serious crimes, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of firearms. The arrests were made in separate operations across the state, according to a statement from the police.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police spokesperson, confirmed the seizure of a locally made Beretta pistol and a suspected stolen vehicle during the operations.

He highlighted that these arrests were part of an ongoing security initiative overseen by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, aimed at reducing criminal activity in the region.

The arrests include three suspects detained during a raid at a criminal hideout in Igbariam on February 22, 2025. The suspects—Miracle Chukwunoso, Chinweze Charles, and Bonaventure Chigozie—ranged in age from 20 to 26. They were reportedly involved in a robbery where victims had over N254,000 stolen, and one victim’s account was accessed and drained by the suspects.

Additionally, on February 16, 2025, police operatives responded quickly to a kidnapping incident near Ejison Fuel Station along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, rescuing the victim and arresting two individuals (names withheld). The victim’s car, a Toyota Corolla, was recovered at a mechanic’s workshop. The kidnappers had forced the victim to withdraw over N1 million and stole two mobile phones valued at N820,000.

Ikenga assured the public that the suspects would face prosecution once investigations are completed.
