The Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi State, has suspended Felix Okemini, a former aide to Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, following allegations of involvement in cult-related activities.

Okemini, who previously served as the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security for Ebonyi North, was removed from his position earlier this week.

He had been admitted to study Political Science at the university, and during the recent matriculation ceremony, he was photographed wearing an insignia believed to be linked to a secret cult. The image quickly went viral, sparking public outrage and demands for his removal from both the government and the institution.

The Ebonyi State government, through Secretary to the State Government, Grace Umezuruike, confirmed Okemini’s dismissal earlier this week.

In response to the controversy, the university issued a letter on Friday, signed by the Registrar, Dr. Ifeanyi Igwe, stating that Okemini had been suspended indefinitely.

The letter cited a breach of the matriculation oath, emphasizing that cultism and related activities are strictly prohibited and considered a threat to the university community’s safety and moral standards.

The suspension will remain in effect pending the results of an investigation by the university’s Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
