Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has called for continued improvement from his team, despite their 2-0 win over Rwanda on Friday in Kigali.

The match, part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, saw Nigeria secure a crucial victory on matchday 5.

In a post-match press conference, Chelle expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance against a challenging Rwandan side, but emphasized that there’s still room for growth as they prepare for their next fixture on Tuesday in Uyo against bottom-ranked Zimbabwe.

“It was a tough game because Rwanda is a strong team, and I know their coach is highly skilled. We played a great game as well,” Chelle said. “I’m happy and proud of my players, and I’m grateful for the support of the Nigerian people.”

The Malian coach revealed that the team had worked hard over the past week, focusing on analysis and video sessions following two training practices.

“I think the win is a natural outcome because Rwanda only had one real chance to score in the first half. In the second half, we controlled the ball well, using two or three different systems,” Chelle explained.

While pleased with the result, Chelle remained focused on the future, acknowledging the team’s weaknesses and strengths. “This is just one game. My job is to think ahead and plan for our next steps,” he added.
