Alex Ekwueme University in Ebonyi State has suspended Felix Okemini, former special assistant on security to Governor Francis Nwifuru, following allegations of cult-related behavior during the institution’s recent matriculation ceremony.

Okemini, who was dismissed by the governor for misconduct earlier, was suspended indefinitely by the university just days after enrolling as a political science student.

A suspension letter, dated March 20, 2025, and circulated on social media, announced that the suspension would remain in effect until the conclusion of an investigation into the cultism claims.

The letter read: “The Vice-Chancellor has reviewed the report regarding the cult-related behavior allegations made against you, based on your actions during the matriculation ceremony on March 14, 2025.”

It continued, “As a result, the Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the Senate, has ordered your indefinite suspension from the university pending the outcome of an investigation by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee. This letter serves as your formal suspension notification from the university.”
